Secondary Academy for Success receives Green Ribbon School Award in Washington, D.C.

Northshore School District Superintendent Larry Francois and Secondary Academy for Success? (SAS) sustainable engineering and design teacher Mike Wierusz and science teacher Greg Kuehnoel traveled to Washington, D.C. to accept a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School award on June 4. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson, White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin were on hand to congratulate the honorees.

Seventy-eight schools across the nation were recognized for their comprehensive approach to greening their schools, making strides to reduce their schools? environmental impact, improving the health of students and providing education geared toward the sustainability challenges of the 21st century. SAS houses one of the first sustainability engineering and design programs in the country.
